Cows scream louder than carrots, but are less alive than the hostesses

David Benbennick, Wikicommons

was once asked a Zen master, tongue-in-cheek, why he was vegetarian. He replied:
"Because the cows cry louder than carrots!"
- But someone objected, I saw you the other day eating meat during the meal we were invited!
- is that the hostess was living and the dead cow. "

Welcome Message For A Baby

Another Year - From Mike Leigh

Another Year
(England, 2010) Scenario Design &
Mike Leigh
With Jim Broadbent (Tom), Ruth Sheen (Gerri), Lesley Manville (Mary), Peter Wight (Ken), Oliver Maltman (Joe) ...

Synopsis
Spring, summer, autumn and winter. Family and friendship. Love and comfort. Joy and sorrow. Hope and despair. Fraternity. Loneliness. Birth. A death. Time passes ...
°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°

Another Year In four paintings from spring to winter, Mike Leigh us a portrait of a couple, Tom and Gerri (Yes, yes!) And their world. Starting point each season, the allotment, a small plot that they both have with love for the sake of obtaining some fruits, vegetables, and other aches. The motto of the two seems to be that of Candide in Voltaire's work , "we must cultivate our garden" seems to tell us the director.
She is a medical, he is a geologist, this weekend, they receive a colleague of Gerry, Mary and relies on the presence of their son Joe . While Mary as usual s'alcoolise widely, both parents are delighted with the arrival of their son, while regretting that he is still secretly married. Other
season, and a member of more Ken, a friend, a childhood friend of Tom joins our small Tribe time for a weekend booze question it goes the distance with Mary even if all new owner of a car, he must be careful. Relationships are complicated, and slightly behind, Ken has views of Mary, who was on Joe, and inevitably it goes straight in the wall .. Especially when Mary led to the return to London ... Avoided in-extremis!

The other two periods, the fall and the arrival of Katie, a charming therapist who made his entry into the emotional lives of Joe and s' attracts strong antipathy to Mary. Then winter, the season of mourning, to which Tom loses his sister at home and collects his older brother Ronnie for a few days. the passage of Mary came unexpectedly, apologizing for his attitude toward Katie, Mary a shaken, a character undermined by too much alcohol, no doubt, loneliness, the one we did not choose and which you can mark its bite.
That in a few pages, dividing roughly a calendar, Mike Leigh between two worlds, the insurance that gives love, played wonderfully by Tom and Gerri , they have much to give but beware if it affects their loved ones, their own families, and they reject Mary for his attitude vis-à-vis Katie .
Mary, beginning a slow slide down the slopes of the depression, Mary's female character on the edge of the abyss .. remarkable performance Lesley Manville .
Mary's character as borderline, certainly too fragile perhaps the most endearing, the seal of loneliness!

Excessif.Com "... To provide a dark but lucid observation: loneliness and despair will be certain for those who do not know as Voltaire wrote in Candide cultivate their gardens. "
CritiKat.Com " .. Mike Leigh depicts slices of life with the touch of irony and caustic which chronicles of bitter aimlessness. The film is remarkably played by all players, who form a band endearing and credible, and dialogues are fly. Yet the more the film progresses, it becomes obvious that something is wrong ... "The

THE REVOLVING FLOOR Issue 06
THE TOPIC AT HAND : Back From The Dead

Resurrection stories are stories about death, Where the Death Takes place in the middle. Have lives, careers, Relationships, and projects give in to entropy, we’re increasingly fixated on two ideas: our knowledge of certain doom, and our remembrance of a time when we lacked that knowledge. The birthday celebration of a man who could not die is a masks the more ancient ritual acknowledging the inevitability of winter. Which is to say: death.

Everybody dies. But everybody also sleeps, forgets, hungers, and thirsts: emptinesses that can be filled. We all want to wake up, to remember, to eat, to drink. To come back from the dead.
